Four-tier security beefed up at Shaeed Minar

Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah on Monday said that four-tier security measure has been taken in and around the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital ahead of International Mother Language Day on February 21.

No vehicle will be allowed on Shaheed Minar premises from 6pm on February 20 to early hours on February 21.

The government will not interfere in preparing the certified copy of the graft verdict against Khaleda Zia, Law Minister Anisul Huq said today reflecting on allegations of dillydally in preparing it.

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has arrived in Dhaka in his maiden Bangladesh visit to see the plight of Rohingyas ahead of his visit to Myanmar from Sunday.

A court in the United States has dismissed all felony charges against Deputy Consul General at the Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York Md Shahedul Islam, reports UNB.


This was confirmed by his lawyer Daniel N Arshack.


The case is now over and Islam is free to travel, Consul General in New York Md Shameem Ahsan told UNB, quoting the lawyer on Wednesday.

4 of a family can be directors of a bank

With a view to bringing some changes in the process of nomination to the top positions of a bank and tenure of the directors, the parliament on Tuesday passed the “Bank Company (Amendment) Bill, 2018.”


Under the new law, four members of a family, instead of existing two, can be inducted in the board of directors of a bank at a time.
