Cop arrested for boarding flight without passport

A police official has been arrested for boarding a flight at Shahjalal International Airport in the capital without passport or visa.


Airport Director Kazi Iqbal Karim said that immigration officers handed SI Ashiqur Rahman over to Dhaka police.


“It is unfortunate to see a police official acting this way,” Karim told reporters on Sunday.

Benapole customs intelligence seized Indian Jardaa, Skin cream, jewelry and fire crackers worth Tk 20 lakh from Benapole-Khulna commuter train on Thursday.Mohammad Sadiq, deputy commissioner of Benapole Customs Intelligence, said that on secret information, a team of customs intelligence conducted a drive in the Benapole-Khulna commuter train in Navaron area and seized 1,170 pieces of fine jarda, 1,200 pieces of skincare cream (ultra), 5,700 pieces of Betnovate cream, 7,200 pieces of jewelery items, and 31 kg of current net.

American held at Dhaka airport with drone

An American was detained with a drone at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka early today.

The American was identified as Mark Rumam Kutrobskir, 22, according to his passport, said Moinul Khan, director of Customs Intelligence.


Mark came to Bangladesh via an Emirates airline on January 26. On primary quizzing, he admitted to have captured still images and videos of Bangladesh with the drone.

A group of students of Dhaka University, who were sued over the movement demanding annulment of DU affiliation with seven colleges, demanded immediate withdrawal of the case filed against them.


They also threatened that if the 'false case' was not withdrawn by Sunday, university proctor would be forced to resign.



They made the demand at a rally following a torch procession on the university campus protesting at the case filed against 50 students on accusation of vandalising the gate of the proctor’s office during protests demanding punishment to Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders for assaulting them.

Eight days into waging a hunger strike demanding nationalisation, madrasa teachers today called it an end following assurance that their demand will be placed to the prime minister.

Technical and Madrasa Board Secretary Md Alamgir today conveyed to the demonstrating madrasa teachers that he will convey their message to the premier within three days.


Following the instructions of the prime minister and the finance minister, the Ministry of Education will take an initiative, he told the madrasa teachers.

Bagerhat-based RAB-8 chief Sohel Rana Prince said the incident took place at the forest’s Sharankhola Range around 9am on Thursday. The Padma rail link project seems uncertain as the government has failed to sign a loan agreement with a China bank in time.

A railway ministry letter sent to the Prime Minister’s Office in November 2016 says the rail ink project must be rolled out in January 2017 for launch in 2019 along with the Padma Pidge.

The rail communication must start simultaneously with the launch of the pidge, as per orders from the prime minister, according to the letter.

Thirty five policemen were injured as a bus carrying them plunged into a roadside ditch in central bus terminal area of the district town on Saturday night.


The bus carrying 40 policemen plunged into the ditch as the driver lost control over the steering and hit a roadside tree while giving side to a truck around 10:30 pm, said Joynul Abedin, additional superintendent of Kushtia Police.

improve from January 10, according to an official of the met office.
