PROTECTION OF RELIGIOUS MINORITIES IN BANGLADESH

A group of leaders and members from different organisations met together today at Shiva Temple, Salisbury Road, Manor Park E12 6AB in connection with the recent atrocities in Bangladesh and decided to form a common platform ‘Campaign for Protection of Religious Minorities in Bangladesh’ with a view to coordinate and facilitate the action to be taken for the protection of the religious minorities in Bangladesh.

 The meeting was chaired by Mr Haradhan Bhowmik and conducted by Mr Ajit K Saha of “Sarbojanin Baba Lokenath Association, UK”. Among the leaders, Mr Dipak Roy of ‘Hindu Pragati Sangha’, Mr Proshanta Purukayasta of ‘Bangladesh Hindu Association UK’, Mr Mrinal K Sarkar of ‘Sanaton Association’, Mr Sujit Sen, Human Rights Activist, Mr Piyash Barua of ‘Bangladesh Buddhist Association’, Mr Tanvir Sajib of ‘Non Resident Bangladeshi Professionals’, Mr Jayanto Biswas of ‘Gonojagoron Mancha – UK’, Mr Swapan Nandi of ‘Jagannath Hall Alumni Association UK’, Dr Bishwajit Roy, Mr Pradip Saha, Mr Anupam Saha, Mr Santosh Sarker, Mr Kamol Saha, Mr Amitosh Majumdar, Mr Bishwajit Bal, Barrister Swapan Majumdar, Mrs Pushpita Gupta, Mr. Ashish & all others  expressed their strong apprehensions over the prevailing situation in Bangladesh.

 Since the declaration of the verdict by the International Crimes Tribunal the extremists of fanatic parties have vandalised, looted and burnt out hundreds of houses, temples and business properties of religious minorities across Bangladesh. The attendants of the meeting were extremely concerned for the safety and security of the religious minorities in Bangladesh. Campaign for Protection of Religious Minorities in Bangladesh strongly condemned these atrocities and asks the concerned authorities to take urgent necessary action to protect these places of worship, personal and business properties and above all to ascertain the safety and security of all religious minorities. The meeting also urged the Bangladesh Government to provide financial compensation for the loss of the lives and properties during these continuous atrocities.

 The organisation also requested all the members and public in general to take part in the demonstration to be held in front of the Houses of Parliament on Wednesday, the 13th March 2013. The details action plan for this campaign will be announced soon.
